Autobiography
OK so here's my Autobiography i was supposed to have put up a while ago. I've been quite busy and all so i had to do this quickly, which is why i had to use the camera without a tripod.

Rotation (Drawing class)
Basically, your trying to draw someone without seeing them and using your first drawings as a guideline
Here's how I fared. Don't really like this one. I know I can do better, but it's just practice to be honest. Oh yeh and out partner would turn again and then we'd be able to look at them and draw
Murder scene in Drawing class (storyboard)
OK so here's the storyboard (not in order) for an short clip i am about to upload, i had it scanned. we had in a model who'd appear at random parts of the studio in a different pose holding something different and we'd draw exactly what was in front of us, so if Steve was in your view, you'd draw him.
Tom then had us include other people that were around us, so if someone else was in your view alongside Steve, you'd draw them as well. then tom had us include stuff like skulls, vases and yes a dead cat. At first, i didn't understand all the random poses, until the final sequence when i realized they just re-enacted a murder scene.
in my next post with the video link, you'll see how i made up mine. it may be slightly different for others but the dominant idea for everybody's short clip is a murder.
Catching a ball animation
Here's a my clip of a traditional drawn animation. its basic steps, something coming in from the right and transferred to the left.
we had in Elroy who lectured us on the use of a light-box and how we can transfer the basic knowledge of that to digital(Flash and after effects)
I did mine on one's at first, then two's to have a slower look at it. for those who may not know, animating on one's means your simply setting your frames to run for one second and two's means two seconds. so that's basically one drawing to run at either a second or two, pretty simple yeah?

16mm scratch Film
Here's my 16 mm film short clip. this should have been on my blog ages ago but i only just edited it recently, so my bad for that. Animating on 16 mm stock-film was pretty much the standard way of doing things back then. its still used today but on a very small scale.
i scratched mine and left some of the black edges on it and added color to random areas to make it all seem abstract. so there's no particular order, its just a flush of colors in seconds lined up beside some very sharp black edges.
here's some pictures of the film before i ran it through for shooting
Riley the elephant model animation
What i have here is an animation of my model Riley. We had in last week, Emma caulder to teach us model animation. its fun but tiring. My task was to make a drunk elephant. very tiring but worth it in the end.
Here's some of the things i used in the video, not too shabby for a barrel of whisky i reckon, and riley on separate shots.
We used an app called Dragon-frame to do the shooting as using a tripod would probably cause more issues because of shaking
Body swap in Drawing class
Ok so this past week. We did a lot of stuff in my drawing class. Here's a brief summary
In this first drawing. We had a model come in and we'd quickly outline or shade him in for about a minute or two. This was done till space on your paper ran out in which case I was able to fill in right poses(started with the upper half)
Next the model did completely unrelated poses and we had to quickly shade in his lower half to fit any of the top halves we'd already done. Could have done better with mine but it's just practice to be honest
Next set of drawings came with a new idea from Tom(tutor)
In this one. We each did the lower halves of the model poses and after that started switching sketch pads for the top half
So basically, We would each use our own shading method on somebody else's work. The idea behind that is to see what methods other people are using and see if you can tap into theirs.
Last one from Tom had us switching all sides. He's tell us to fit the model with different things or make them look a certain way. Like the second drawing with a tail or third from the right that has a knight upper body. It was fun to do and helpful as well. That's all for now. New post soon

Digital drawings
Finally getting the hang of my graphic tablet and i was able to come up with some quick ideas.
I tried to create a water effect with this picture here. the original is below
And i like the way this last one turned out. i used some of the methods i learnt in drawing class on this painting. the lesson we had on quick poses really helped out because i normally wouldn't be able to draw grapes but i have the idea that they are kind of oval in shape, so i used the pencil tool to make quick outlines and added leafs just for looks. The background can still be improved but i kind of like it the way it is now
I use a wacom intuos graphic tablet but the mini version, so as you'd expect its smaller than the usual and the whole surface is the pad with no resting space for my arm. its good all the same as its smaller.

Animation Timeline
Ok so here's some key dates in animation running through the 1800's to the early 90's
1824: Peter Roget presented his paper 'The persistence of vision with regard to moving objects' to the British Royal Society.
1831: Dr. Joseph Antoine Plateau (a Belgian scientist) and Dr. Simon Rittrer constructed a machine called a phenakitstoscope. This machine produced an illusion of movement by allowing a viewer to gaze at a rotating disk containing small windows; behind the windows was another disk containing a sequence of images. When the disks were rotated at the correct speed, the synchronization of the windows with the images created an animated effect.
1906: J. Stuart Blackton made the first animated film which he called "Humorous phases of funny faces." His method was to draw comical faces on a blackboard and film them. He would stop the film, erase one face to draw another, and then film the newly drawn face. The Ôstop-motionÕ provided a starting effect as the facial expressions changed be fore the viewerÕs eyes.
1908: In France Emile Cohl produced a film, Phantasmagorie which was the first depicting white figures on a black background.
1910: Emile Cohl makes En Route the first paper cutout animation. This technique saves time by not having to redraw each new cell, only reposition the paper.
1911
• Winsor McCay (1867- Spring Lake, Ohio -1934) makes his first film, "LITTLE NEMO." McCay, who was already famous for his comic strips, used this film in his vaudeville act. His advice on animation was:" Any idiot that wants to make a couple of thousand drawings for a hundred feet of film is welcome to join the club."
1912
• Winsor McCay's second film "THE STORY OF A MOSQUITO" ("HOW A MOSQUITO OPERATES") is released.
1914
• Winsor McCay's "GERTIE THE DINOSAUR" was the first major triumph in character animation (it is still a marvelous film). It was shown as a film in the theaters and also as a multi media event on stage with McCay interacting with the animated Gertie.
1926: The first feature-length animated film called "El Apostol" is created in Argentina.
1930: The Warner Bros. Cartoons are born. The First Warner Bros. short was SINKING IN THE BATHTUB with the character BOSKO who was a take off on Mickey Mouse. Harman, Ising, and Friz Freleng, who were old Disney people, started the studio with Leon Schlesinger as the producer. He was a cousin of the Warner BrotherÕs and had helped back the "Jazz Singer". As a condition for the studio each short must contain a Warners song. So Looney Tunes series, a take off on the Silly Symphonies, began. "Our policy has always been laughs, the more the better", was the Warner's philosophy (Schlesinger).
1932: Walt Disney wins his first Academy Award for "FLOWERS AND TREES." This film was the first to use 3 strip Technicolor (color) in animation.
1933: Walt Disney wins his second Academy Award for "THE THREE LITTLE PIGS."
